My clients leaving the US aren’t the only ones on a journey

I launched Conscientious Emigration Consulting services in January 2024, having had a year and half of living in Mexico under my belt and realizing that so many of the people I encountered through my environmental conservation and equity work were intrigued about the notion of leaving the US, but were overwhelmed and stuck when it came to taking action.

People born and raised in the US, with some exceptions, are generally not raised to think they will leave.

Sure, there are the privileged few who spend semesters abroad, people who grow up with parents in the military, and first/second-generation kids who have exposure to global residency.

Having grown up with and having a lot of people in my life who were immigrants or first-generation in the US, I see the juxtaposition clearly — while migrating to the US is a common theme among people from around the world, the reverse trend has historically been less prevalent.

Having navigated the US immigration system on behalf of an ex-husband, gained familiarity with it through my relationships with people from Latin America and the Caribbean, and managed our emigration to Mexico with no professional support, I knew I could help.

What I wasn’t prepared for has begun to surprise, fulfill, and even delight me.
